OpenAI to watermark ChatGPT text in EU only, putting Anthropic's global plan under pressure
vb100 · reddit · 2026-10-08
OpenAI announced it will add invisible watermarks to eligible ChatGPT and Codex text output in the EU only, across all plans, and is not making watermarking a global default. Anthropic had said it would apply watermarking globally at launch because it lacks a way to scope by region — an excuse that's hard to sustain now that a direct competitor has done regional scoping. The post asks how long before Anthropic follows suit.
