Tesla patents tactile skin for Optimus robot hand, targeting its hardest problem
CyberRobooo · x · 2026-10-08
- Elon Musk has called the Optimus hand one of the hardest parts of the robot. A newly published Tesla patent points to one piece of that puzzle: a tactile skin that conforms to the curved surfaces of a robot hand, giving it a sense of touch.
- The idea pairs vision with touch: when Optimus grabs a cup, a part, or a fragile object, vision tells it where the object is, while tactile sensing tells the fingers when contact is made — enabling steadier grasps.
