Someone rebuilt Adobe's big five — Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere, Illustrator, Acrobat — from scratch in Rust using Claude Opus 5.5, and open-sourced all of them.
- PhotoCraft, the clean-room Photoshop reimplementation, already has 21.4k stars and 2.8k forks about a week after going open source.
- It supports layers, masks, adjustment layers, and layer styles, and opens/saves real PSD files.
- It exposes 500+ commands shared across UI, CLI, and MCP server — anything you can click, an agent can do. Hook it into Claude Code or Codex via photocraft-cli mcp to batch color-grade, sharpen, and export whole folders.
- Claude Opus 5.5 appears as a co-author in its commits.
