Debt financing for AI has reached a new high: JPMorgan is marketing a $5B loan for Volta at roughly 11% yield, funding 36,000 Nvidia GPUs and a data centre in Norway — pricier than earlier AI loans for CoreWeave, Lambda and Crusoe.
- Companies have borrowed $625B for AI and data centres in the past two years
- The buildout could cost nearly $5T by 2030
- The AI boom is increasingly a stress test of how much expensive debt it can absorb
