Mathematicians blast OpenAI's 700-file math release: "a demonstration of power, not scholarship"

- Terence Tao's blog reposts a statement by the Association for Human Mathematics on OpenAI's Oct 6 release of 700+ manuscripts purporting to solve high-profile math problems.
- The AHM notes OpenAI is defending plagiarism/copyright/trademark suits, and that the advisory group OpenAI cites itself said frontier AI firms shouldn't test advanced math on internal models — which OpenAI ignored.
- "Releasing over 700 files at once is not a demonstration of scholarship, but a demonstration of power." The AHM urges mathematicians to stop working with OpenAI.
