GitHits launches version-aware MCP index so coding agents can use open source right
skvark · reddit · 2026-10-08
GitHits launched a version-aware open source index for coding agents, accessible via MCP: it unifies source code, docs, dependency graphs, vulnerability info, and release changes so agents can search, grep, browse, and read upstream code. Agents debugging an unfamiliar error can find the error text in a dependency's source at the installed version; before upgrades they can inspect release notes and diff source. Any public repo or published package can be indexed on demand (seconds to minutes), private code is never touched. Free for now, with possible paid tiers later; also available as a Claude connector.
