Nathan Benaich calls Nvidia 'the central bank of AI,' arguing its advantage extends far beyond the latest chip. Per @zetavector's full-year 2026 estimate, the six-year-old A100 still leads Nvidia chip mentions in AI papers at 14,707 — ahead of H100 and H200 combined.
Nvidia also helps build demand for its chips: Dealroom counts participation in 84 AI funding rounds this year, roughly double its 2024 total, alongside acquisitions, open models and hardware optimizations. Backing challengers has been harder than owning Nvidia: a modeled comparison values $17.3B invested across eight western challengers at 3.6x, versus 4.7x for Nvidia itself.
