Anthropic's Oct 7 update adds monthly API credits for Max/Team plans while keeping subscription-based Agent SDK usage intact

A Reddit write-up untangles Anthropic's October 7 announcement that many misread as the return of June's Agent SDK restrictions:
- Subscription usage unchanged: Claude Agent SDK, claude -p, and third-party apps still run within existing subscription limits.
- New monthly API credits: Max 5x gets $100/month, Max 20x $200/month, Team Standard $20/seat, Team Premium $100/seat (team pool capped at $500/month). Credits are separate from subscription limits, refresh monthly, don't roll over, and require linking a Claude Console org.
- Two claude -p modes: subscription auth consumes subscription limits (not credits); API-key auth consumes the new credits and falls back to normal billing once exhausted.
- Caveat: runs via Claude Code GitHub Action, IDE extensions, or Claude Desktop count as Claude Code usage regardless of -p, so credits don't apply.
- June policy not reinstated: the plan to move SDK/claude -p usage to credit billing was paused June 15 and remains shelved; these credits are distinct from the previously announced Agent SDK credits.
Bottom line: it's a genuine added benefit for Max/Team developers, not a restriction.
