Aaronson: OpenAI's 376 papers skip cryptography entirely as labs quietly probe if models can break crypto

UT Austin CS chair Scott Aaronson notes that cryptography is conspicuously absent from OpenAI's list of 376 papers. He adds that, per his sources, AI companies have started cautiously investigating whether their latest internal models can break important cryptographic protocols and primitives — suggesting frontier labs may be testing capabilities against real-world encryption without publishing the work.
