AI splits ambitious people: some coast, others work longer hours than ever

Matt Shumer observed a clear AI trend: his ambitious friends are working longer hours than ever, while his 9-5 friends are happily coasting. Karim Douïeb (doodlestein) replied that he noticed the same in January and it's only getting more pronounced. In a longer quoted thread, he argues frontier AI capability affects people differently depending on their outlook: some are thrilled to do 3x the work in half the time, while others — like himself — see massive leverage on personal effort and turn the intensity up higher than ever. He frames it with an analogy to graduating with a math degree in 2005.
