Ethereum's Justin Drake calls for 'bunker mode' crypto migration as AI math advances threaten assumptions
marcvanderchijs · x · 2026-10-08
Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake urged the blockchain industry to calmly begin 'bunker mode': a controlled migration of assets to fresh addresses whose pubkeys stay hidden behind hashes, and to keep rotating addresses on every signature. He argues the real risk isn't quantum computing but conventional mathematics overturning unproven cryptographic hardness assumptions, amid rapid AI-driven progress in math (e.g., OpenAI's newly released mathematical results). He cautions against rushed or panicked migration, which would do more harm than good.
