Sierra launches fleming-1, a model that detects when a phone caller is an AI agent

Following its open Personal Agent Protocol, Sierra launched fleming-1, a model that detects whether the caller on a phone call is an AI agent.
- Framing: Caller ID (BellSouth, 1988) answered 'who is calling'; the 2024 question is 'what is calling'. Sierra already saw its own healthcare agents calling each other
- The protocol gives personal agents an authorized way to identify themselves to businesses; fleming-1 covers agents that don't respect it
- The model scores call audio in real time for signs of AI generation — 'information, not judgement': a bank might add verification, high-volume companies might first measure frequency
- Sierra stresses callers could be fraudsters probing accounts at scale, or ordinary users who delegated chores to an agent
