WSJ: Broadcom arranging $50B+ financing for OpenAI's custom chips under secret Nexus program

Per WSJ, Broadcom is lining up more than $50B in financing for OpenAI's custom chip effort, with Apollo and Blackstone among lenders and a close targeted before end of 2026.
- The money could cover several gigawatts of the 10 GW OpenAI and Broadcom plan to deploy through 2029
- OpenAI's internal chip program is called Nexus; its first two chip generations are codenamed Jalapeño and Serrano
- Oracle is negotiating a lease structure with Apollo and Goldman Sachs where investors fund a separate company that buys the chips, letting Oracle pay as cloud revenue arrives instead of borrowing more
