AI Pinpoints Melon Yield Mutation in an Afternoon, Ranking #1 of 2,494 Candidates

AI lab Living Models pairs Gemma 4 E4B with BOTANIC-1, a genomic language model, to speed up crop breeding. Gemma prepares and filters genomic data, feeding candidates to BOTANIC-1 to score evolutionary impact and pinpoint causal mutations. In a recent test, the pipeline ranked the target melon yield mutation #1 out of 2,494 possibilities in a single afternoon of computation — work that used to take years of physical breeding.
