Sentry CEO: Six Months of Data Shows Same-Level AI Intelligence Isn't Actually Cheaper
zeeg · x · 2026-10-08
Sentry founder David Cramer pushed back on claims that AI models are getting dramatically cheaper. With about six months of cost data in hand, he argues that in absolute dollar terms, tasks of the same intelligence level aren't meaningfully cheaper — falling prices buy you higher-end intelligence, not the same intelligence at significantly lower cost.
He notes he stopped writing code in July last year, and suggests the fair comparison is re-running a task that was already doable 12 months ago and contrasting today's cost. He also promotes Sentry's Luna as one of the few offerings that genuinely got cheaper, arguing most providers bundle things you may not need rather than cutting compute prices.
