Humans and LLMs share working-memory limits: COLM paper points to one computational trade-off
SaxeLab · x · 2026-10-08
A study being presented at COLM (Oct 6, Poster #32) argues that humans and LLMs both show working-memory limitations because they face the same computational trade-off: shared representations enable efficient learning and generalization, but also create interference. The work offers a unified explanation for memory capacity bottlenecks in both biological and machine intelligence.
