Agents Expose Legacy Software as 'Workflow Theater': Is TurboTax Doomed in Months?
signulll · x · 2026-10-08
signulll argues that as agents get incredibly good, much legacy software is revealed as "workflow theater": those workflows exist only because old software couldn't understand intent, gather context, decide, or act — exactly what agents are built to do.
He cites Intuit's TurboTax: nobody wanted to file taxes that way; people just want to hand over their financial data and get a correct return. In his view such software is cooked, forced into ever-heavier lobbying (think "no AI in tax filing" bills) to survive — with months or less left.
