Claude computer toolset quickstart: VNC example driver, five compatible drivers
ClaudeDevs · x · 2026-10-08
Anthropic detailed how to use Claude's new computer toolset: pick a compatible driver from Browser Use, Browserbase, E2B or Daytona, or write your own based on the quickstart.
- The open-source computer-toolset repo (Python/TypeScript) includes a minimal VNC example: declare one toolset entry and the model calls each desktop action (screenshot, leftclick, type, etc.) as its own tool, executed by a driver.
- The example driver is a few hundred lines, driving one desktop over raw RFB and implementing ten of the toolset's tools; a model-free variant lets you test what the model would see.
- Warning: whatever is on screen steers the model and a focused terminal runs whatever it types — run only against throwaway environments.
