OpenAI's human rights lead: military AI targeting 'keeps me up at night'

Sarah Yager, OpenAI's first human rights and responsible deployment lead (hired in June after the company's contract with the Department of War to deploy AI in classified environments), says military use of AI for targeting and autonomous weapons "keeps her up at night." She noted real risks: CNN reported the US military nearly targeted a Chinese military ship based on an inaccurate AI-generated intelligence report. She says she has had some success influencing the technology's direction since joining.
