MIT researcher Aran Nayebi offers a big-picture take: in the not-too-distant future we may view today as the "old world" where humans did intellectual labor, much like horses that did physical labor before supremely-optimized engines. Replying to tszzl on whether yesterday marked an important day, he adds that in a punctuated exponential every local maximum looks invisible from a bit further out—landmark moments are hard to recognize in the moment.
