Designer turns his portfolio into an AoE-style game with custom voice prompts in his own voice
jayneil · x · 2026-10-08
Designer Tom Johns spent a year building portfolio sites he hated, then followed his own advice that portfolios should "feel like a playground, not a portfolio": he made his portfolio a game called Tomjohnville. It contains his entire career history rendered as an Age of Empires-inspired world, complete with custom audio prompts played in his own voice as you move your avatar around. The demo drew enthusiastic reactions as one of the most creative portfolio formats yet.
