Musk Announces Grok Will Route to Best Backend Model Per Task, Including Claude and MidJourney
soleio · x · 2026-10-08
Elon Musk posted an important note: going forward, Grok Bot will use the best backend model for any given task, including Claude Opus 5.5, MidJourney, Suno and other leading APIs, to maximize output quality.
Commenter @illscience argues this lets xAI eat its cake and have it too: with a SOTA in-house model, labs can't bully them; routing lets them capture inference margin on third-party models like a Cursor-style router; plus access to Suno and MidJourney covers tail modalities — the house always wins.
