Turning her columns into AI-generated characters changed her writing system
every · x · 2026-10-07
Instead of filing her essay, Every's Katie used AI to turn the publication's columns into characters with ambitions, flaws, villains, and stories—which unexpectedly improved her writing system. Making them interesting required asking what each character wants, needs to learn, and what events could change their next move. She then applied the same questions to readers: what do they arrive wanting, what should they understand or try, and what will they take back into their lives? She added this guidance to her AI writing toolkit, giving herself and the model something concrete to co-create around.
