Zuckerberg's Biohub is teaming up with Google DeepMind, Meta and the U.S. government on a $1.8B effort to build AI models of living cells, aiming at a "universal virtual cell" that lets scientists test experiments digitally before running the most promising ones in the lab.
DeepMind, Isomorphic Labs and Meta are collectively investing $300M; the $1.8B total combines funding, data, computing and measurement technology, including resources from prior NIH investment. Biohub's head of science Alex Rives called it "the beginning of a new scientific paradigm with AI."
