Google opens SynthID website so anyone can check if media is AI-generated
leslysandra · x · 2026-10-07
Google launched a public SynthID website that lets anyone verify whether an image, video, or audio clip was AI-generated, after testing with select journalists and researchers.
- Built on the SynthID watermarking tech introduced in 2023; media from Nano Banana, Veo, Lyria, and tools like Gemini, Flow, ProducerAI, and Vids all carry SynthID watermarks.
- Supports JPG/PNG/WEBP/HEIC/TIFF/GIF images, MP4/MOV/WEBM video, and WAV/MP3/OGG/FLAC/AAC/M4A audio.
- OpenAI, Nvidia, and Kakao also support SynthID; OpenAI runs its own detection site, and Apple is reportedly adding support.
