The U.S. government, Google, Meta, and the Zuckerberg-backed Biohub are launching a $1.8B initiative to build the data layer for AI biology, aiming to assemble the largest open, AI-ready biological dataset ever created.
Funding breakdown:
- Biohub: $500M
- DOE: $500M+ across measurement, modeling, and compute
- NIH: $500M+ of federally funded datasets and repositories
- Meta, Google DeepMind, and Isomorphic Labs: $300M combined
The effort targets the biggest bottleneck in biology AI — generating standardized, high-quality biological data at scale — and will make it openly available to researchers.
