Toasty, the async Rust ORM by Tokio's creator, now fully supports Turso
glcst · x · 2026-10-07
Carl Lerche, creator of Tokio, is building a "Rails for Rust" stack: the topcoat web framework and the async ORM toasty. A guest post announces toasty now fully supports Turso in three modes: fully local (local files with concurrent writes), local-first sync (external sync server), and fully remote over HTTP to Turso Cloud.
The backdrop: DHH declared in his Rails keynote that "now that AI writes all the code, Rust is everywhere." A former long-time Rails contributor, Lerche wants to bring Rails energy to Rust — like Rails+SQLite, Toasty+Turso lets apps hit the ground running with zero setup while adding modern SQLite features such as concurrent writes and sync. The post walks through model definitions, and aside from constructors everything feels identical across the three modes. Also noted: Turso is joining Supabase to "give every agent its own database."
