US EV charging company Xeal announced plans to build what it calls the "world's first edge inference compute network using idle EV charging capacity."
- Xeal operates 1,600+ locations across the US with 200MW of permitted, installed electrical infrastructure
- It aims to deploy over 100,000 NVIDIA GPUs at these sites
- Its new Laitent Pods each hold up to 48 Nvidia Hopper or Blackwell Ultra GPUs
The idea: monetize spare power capacity at charging stations as distributed inference compute — a novel example of AI demand spilling into edge infrastructure.
