Theo's agent-built tsc-rs: $400k of Codex failed, $20k of Opus finished in 2 weeks
dejavucoder · x · 2026-10-07
Theo announced tsc-rs (aka ts-rust), an open-source Rust rewrite of the TypeScript compiler, type checker and LSP, available now as a drop-in tsc replacement. He had agents working on it for 5 months: $400k of Codex tokens got nowhere, while $20k of Opus finished the job in 2 weeks. He says he hasn't read a single line of the code. Commenters quip we've entered the "universal basic port to Rust" era.
