€1M grant to study 'adaptive reframing' — when intelligence means rethinking the problem itself
ValerioCapraro · x · 2026-10-07
Valerio Capraro (University of Milan-Bicocca) announced a €1 million award for a project on "adaptive reframing": real-world problems are dynamic, and intelligence requires knowing when and how to rethink the problem itself rather than just solving a well-defined one.
The project will compare this capacity in humans and AI systems to build better cognitive architectures and robots, drawing on neuroscience, cognitive architectures, robotics, behavioral economics, psychology, and complex systems.
Research positions are opening at four universities: Milan-Bicocca (behavioral economics/psychology), Salerno (cognitive architectures/robotics, with Antonio Lieto), Sapienza Rome (complex systems), and Parma (neuroscience, with Vittorio Gallese).
