The ArtCraft project shipped open-source, clean-room rebuilds of five Adobe apps in one week, including PhotoCraft, a pure-Rust Photoshop reimplementation that already has 10k stars on GitHub.
- Opens and saves real PSD files: tested on 309 Photoshop files, 307 rendered identically
- Menus and shortcuts match Photoshop's layout for easy migration
- Runs on Mac, Windows and Linux, fully offline
- Every button is also a command, so AI agents can edit images the same way humans do
- Early alpha; Apache-2.0/MIT licensed, no subscription
The author notes software this large used to take years to rebuild — a community just shipped five apps in a week and gave them away.
