The US National Hurricane Center said Google DeepMind's weather models were "very useful" in predicting the 2025 hurricane season — a notable official endorsement of AI weather forecasting.
Quoting the news, @amoylan pushed back: frontier labs should devote bleeding-edge internal models to problems improving ordinary Americans' lives today, arguing public skepticism of AI makes near-term real-world value urgent rather than distant math challenges.
