Google Ships Nano Banana 2.1: 14 Reference Images, 15 Aspect Ratios, Seamless Long-Form Output
xiaohu · x · 2026-10-07
Google released Nano Banana 2.1 (gemini-nano-banana-2.1), an image generation and conversational editing model built on the Gemini 3.6 Flash architecture, keeping Flash-level speed and cost.
- Improved photorealism in micro-materials (translucent objects, fur, fabric, oil-paint brushstrokes) plus better text rendering, whitespace, and geometric layout for posters and design drafts.
- Supports up to 14 reference images per generation (4 face-consistent characters, 10 objects), multi-turn continuous editing, and doodle/mask-based inpainting that preserves outlines.
- 15 aspect ratios from 1:1 to 1:8/8:1, with fixed tiling-seam artifacts in 2K/4K long-form output; default 1K with selectable 2K/4K.
- Can pull in Google web/image search for references and uses a configurable Thinking process to balance quality vs latency.
