OpenAI releases new math results from internal frontier model, claims Unique Games proof

OpenAI announced it is releasing a broad set of new mathematical results produced by an internal frontier model, consulted with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and AI at the Institute for Advanced Study before release.
Per a third-party early read, headline claims include: a proof of the Unique Games Conjecture; L = RL = BPL; matrix multiplication with ω ≤ 9/4, a big jump from the current best 2.37; an Ω(n³) permanent vs. determinant lower bound; FFT and integer multiplication faster than n log n; and almost-linear-time maximum matching and edit distance approximation.
If verified, this would mark a landmark in AI-driven mathematical discovery; OpenAI stresses it drew on external advisory recommendations to shape the release.
