Cloud credits in a bubble: AWS clones, Microsoft billing traps, Google's dead services
mkheck · x · 2026-10-07
Founder jmckenty offers a cautionary breakdown of taking incumbent cloud credits while building a startup in a bubble:
- AWS: 12 months in, they launch a clone of your product and crush you.
- Microsoft: every service you launch lands in a new billing account charged to your credit card instead of your credits, and everyone you talk to is a contractor, not a Microsoft employee.
- Google: containers take 45 minutes to launch; exciting new data services get cancelled a week after you port everything over, and no one returns your calls.
His advice: choose wisely before leaning on credits.
