262k-star galaxy collision simulator built with Opus 5.5, Three.js and Blender
techartist_ · x · 2026-10-07
AI artist techartist built a 262,000-star galaxy collision simulator based on the classic Toomre & Toomre (1972) framework, using Claude Opus 5.5 with Three.js and Blender.
The demo illustrates a counterintuitive fact: when galaxies collide, stars almost never hit each other—space is that empty. The real damage comes from gravity, with tidal forces pulling out long tails and bridges. Another striking showcase of AI coding tools enabling professional-grade scientific visualization.
