Dev turns Cornell's BirdNet into a location-aware bird ID game where you can sketch mystery birds
ikeadrift · x · 2026-10-07
Developer ikeadrift explained how their birding tool works: it reads your location and uses Cornell's open-source BirdNet model to identify the birds you're hearing, which you can then log.
The fun twist: if you hear a bird you can't identify, you can sketch a "Mystery Bird" and hope a friend can figure it out — or just draw something weird. "Whatever you want."
Essentially BirdNet's real-time acoustic classification wrapped into a light, social birding game — a neat end-user AI demo.
