pi-optchat: Endless Chats as a Binary Memory Tree, No More Compacting
TheVoxcraft · reddit · 2026-10-07
A new Pi extension implements Victor Taelin's OptChat recipe: instead of compacting context, every message is logged and summarized into a binary tree; each turn starts fresh with a bounded 128KB memory view, and the agent zooms into originals via zoom/date commands. The author moved tens of thousands of messages and hundreds of sessions onto it. Features: separate profiles (work/personal), background subagents you can watch, guide, interrupt and resume, history import from Claude Code/Codex/ChatGPT, and connected windows that turn a second Pi instance into a direct subagent. Install with pi install npm:pi-optchat; source at github.com/jonaslsaa/pi-optchat.
