OpenAI's $10M Navier-Stokes proof faces $1M prize and no approval yet

Gerard Sans runs the numbers on OpenAI's recent Navier-Stokes mathematical proof: reportedly $10M in compute cost against a $1M prize, and the proof still hasn't been approved — a net loss of $9-10M.
He stresses the idea isn't inherently bad and may matter later, but today's AI is too clumsy and expensive for this kind of work to make economic sense as sustainable labor.
