Google released Nano Banana 2.1 (gemini-nano-banana-2.1), a major image-generation upgrade focused on visual design/text rendering, mask editing, and subject consistency.
- Pricing: per-image output halved under Gemini API standard tier — $0.0336 for 1K (from $0.067), $0.0756 for 4K (from $0.151) — as output token price drops from $60 to $30 per million tokens; input prices rise from $0.50 to $1.50. Batch is half price.
- Text rendering: official samples show all prompt-specified strings, coordinates and barcodes rendered correctly.
- Semantic masks: draw a circle to keep the subject while regenerating everything outside.
- Consistency: up to 14 reference images per call (max 4 faces, 10 objects preserved).
- Also supports 1:4/4:1/1:8/8:1 extreme aspect ratios and fixed 2K/4K tiling artifacts; 512px tier removed.
Rolling out across Gemini app, AI Studio, Flow, Stitch, Google Ads and more; the old Nano Banana 2 API deprecates on Oct 29.
