Meta and Sierra announce Personal Agent Protocol with Stripe, Shopify, Walmart

Sierra (founded by Bret Taylor and Clay Bavor) and Meta announced the Personal Agent Protocol (PAP), an open standard joined by Genesys, Instinct, Rocket, Shopify, Stripe and Walmart, with the v0.1 spec landing later this month. Today personal agents browse sites like humans — clicking, filling forms, calling support when stuck — which is slow and failure-prone. Under PAP, the agent reads the merchant's site to learn how to connect, signs in as guest or to the customer's account, the customer grants read-only or write access, sessions run on OAuth, and merchants control the entry point. The biggest distribution players in agents and e-commerce are now behind one protocol.
