Self-improving agent Steve masters Minecraft unaided, out-progressing 97% of human players

superbloomlabs unveiled Steve, billed as the first self-improving AI to master Minecraft without human help:
- Completes 96% of the game's advancements (100/105), out-progressing 97% of human players; defeats the Ender Dragon and retrieves the Egg on any seed.
- Claims 26x more progress than prior attempts by NVIDIA, DeepMind, and OpenAI (vendor claim, not independently verified).
- Approach: capabilities evolve through experience; a cheaper "System One" model (Jev) can then take over, running 92% cheaper and soon locally alongside any game.
- Vision: in-game characters that develop abilities through experience, leading to towns, civilizations, and ecosystems that feel alive.
Minecraft has been a stubborn AI benchmark for a decade; if reproduced, this would be a notable milestone for agent autonomy.
