iroh-acp-rs: use an ACP agent from any machine, peer-to-peer over QUIC, no ports or VPN

carsonfarmer · x · 2026-10-07

carsonfarmer open-sourced iroh-acp-rs: run an Agent Client Protocol (ACP) agent on one machine and drive it from an editor (e.g. Zed) on another, connected peer-to-peer over iroh — no open ports, no VPN, no server in the middle, using QUIC with end-to-end encryption (direct or relayed).

It's two small binaries plus a Rust library, built almost entirely on iroh and the official agent-client-protocol Rust implementation. The library is under 100 lines; each binary under 50. It's a port of the Go version iroh-acp-go, sharing one spec. The author jokes it's a fun "Rewrite it in Rust!" project and notes the code is small enough that you can actually read it all.
