Google ships Nano Banana 2.1, image model live in Search AI Mode

Google released Nano Banana 2.1, its latest image generation and editing model, already live in Google Search's AI Mode.
- Google claims it "outperforms previous models across the board," with notable leaps in visual design, mask-based editing, and subject consistency.
- VP of Search Product Robby Stein said users can try it via the 🍌 icon under the search box in the Google app.
- Timeline: Nano Banana hit Google Lens a year ago, AI Mode last December, AI Overviews in July; AI Overviews don't use 2.1 yet.
