AI hardware is quietly redefining what counts as 'recording'
The Verge AI · rss · 2026-10-07
The Verge examines how AI hardware is blurring the definition of recording. For most of gadget history, a device with a mic or camera was either recording or not; but per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a smart home camera whose 'always present, remembers on demand' design creates a gray zone. When devices listen continuously but only store what seems worth keeping, the on/off recording model and consent frameworks may need rethinking, raising privacy and legal questions.
