Mistral launches Large 4: 1T-param multimodal MoE with 49B active, open weights due end of October

Mistral announced Mistral Large 4 (aka Le Chonk): 1T total parameters, 49B active, natively multimodal. It claims the best open-weights model from the US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks, SOTA on cyber defense, manufacturing and finance workloads, and surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding. Trained end-to-end in Europe and deployable via Mistral's own cloud. API available today; open-weights release at the end of October.
