Codex Auto-review is now free for all: a separate agent approves risky actions for you
reach_vb · x · 2026-10-06
OpenAI's @reachvb clarified common confusion around Codex's Auto-review feature, which is now free for anyone signing in with a ChatGPT account.
Key points:
- Auto-review is the "Approve for me" permission mode: a separate agent reviews actions that need approval, including running commands outside the sandbox or accessing extra files and network resources.
- The value: fewer approval prompts to babysit during long tasks, with sandbox protections still in place. If an action is blocked, Codex finds a safer path or asks you.
- Reviews don't count against your plan's usage.
- To enable: open the permissions menu below the composer and select "Approve for me"—if it's already selected, you're already using it.
