GDELT uses Gemini 3 to reason over 25 years of TV news across 75 countries and 150 languages daily

GDELT, in partnership with the Internet Archive's TV News Archive, launched two public-interest experiments in April: "Today's Trends On Capitol Hill" and "Today's Media Trends".
Every morning for six months, the project has applied Google's Gemini 3 to deeply reason over the previous day's coverage from TV news channels across 75 countries and 150 languages, plus a growing set of US government information (legislation, hearings, remarks, briefings).
Rather than summarizing, the system extracts emergent high-level patterns visible only at scale, producing richly annotated, fully cited thematic analyses where each insight links back to source material. The goal is to help journalists, scholars, and policymakers spot meta-stories and governance trends at a scale only AI enables.
