Ben Goertzel's Manifesto: Building Beneficial AGI Is the Most Important Work of Our Time
bengoertzel · x · 2026-10-06
In the closing installment of his Beneficial AGI Manifesto thread, SingularityNET founder Ben Goertzel depicts the "Beneficial Singularity": after huge work by networks of dedicated teams and a potentially rough transition, beneficial superintelligence — built on the whole of human civilization — arrives, opening the next phase of human and posthuman growth.
The manifesto (Nov 2023) argues the time for human-level AGI is here with promising technical routes; once HLAGI is reached, self-improving ASI likely follows, triggering an intelligence explosion. BGI could be the best thing ever for humanity, but positive outcomes aren't guaranteed — current choices shape what AGI/ASI emerges, so more people should actively work toward beneficial AGI sooner rather than later.
