IronFox admits it: Firefox-based browsers can't match Chromium on security
gnukeith · x · 2026-10-06
In a browser debate, gnukeith cites IronFox's official "Limitations" page praising the Firefox-based privacy browser for being honest about its weaknesses:
- Fingerprinting: IronFox cannot defeat sophisticated fingerprinting — only Tor Browser can; high-risk users should use Tor
- Security: Firefox-based browsers, including IronFox, have security deficiencies vs Chromium, especially on Android
- The docs recommend Chromium-based options like Vanadium on GrapheneOS or Cromite depending on your threat model
A quoted GrapheneOS post adds that Firefox lacks strong per-site sandboxing, the V8 sandbox, Oilpan, PartitionAlloc and other layered protections — a useful reality check against claims that Firefox has never faced major backlash.
